Be a brother’s keeper.

Jeremiah 38:7-10;13

Now Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon. When the king was sitting at the Gate of Benjamin, Ebed-Melech went out of the king’s house and spoke to the king, saying: “My Lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon, and he is likely to die from hunger in the place where he is. For there is no more bread in the city.” Then the king commanded Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he dies.” So, they pulled Jeremiah up with ropes and lifted him out of the dungeon. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.”

It’s in this era, we call evil good, and good evil. This generation has lost integrity. I believe we must challenge one another to be a people of integrity. We owe it to the next generation. Let’s bring back this important word, “character” in our vocabulary.

We should not just talk about it, but we need to model it in our society.

When I meditate about issues men are going through, I can’t help it but to think of this mighty man of valor, Ebed Melech. He rose and challenged the existing state of affairs. Men and women of conviction can only rise and bring transformation in our society. Unfortunately, most of us we are people of preference and not people of conviction.

Every man needs someone to help them, especially in these trying times. Many pressures are surrounding men. They are called to lead their families, pressure at their workplaces, so many responsibilities be it in business space or social. All these factors can easily cause someone to be dysfunctional.

Men, we need to support one another. Let’s stand together. This starts at a place of accountability. This is a scary word for every man. Right? A place of accountability, is a place of power. In this place of accountability, we can pull each other up from the miry clay.

Mighty men of valor, let’s rise and walk in dominion. Let’s embrace our responsibilities as men. It’s time to hold our ground. No one should be left standing alone in this battle! Be a brother’s keeper!
